Biographical / Historical
The Carswell Family Collection features a history of the Carswell, Janes, and Hobbs families. The Carswell family portion focuses on the descendants of Alexander Carswell (1727-1803) and his wife Isabella Brown Carswell, who immigrated to America from Ireland in 1765. The Janes family portion is a biography of Absalom Janes (1796-1847), a trustee and financier of Mercer University and the Georgia Baptist Convention. The Hobbs family portion is a history of Larry and Boling Hobbs, farmers and Baptist ministers in the early days of Laurens County. These families were very influential in early Georgia Baptist history.
