Papers related to Shorter College/University, located in Rome, Georgia.
Note: This collection came to Special Collections in five large boxes and one small box in December 2010 and January 2011. Two large boxes had already been arranged by Dr. Ward, and her system has been preserved in this collection. The remaining boxes have, for the most part, been correlated into her system. These remaining boxes have been arranged by Robert Gardner—usually placed within earlier files and sometimes placed within new files.

Biographical / Historical
M. Carolyn Ward was a white woman born in Atlanta, Georgia, on November 3, 1934. She graduated from Douglas County High School in 1952 and attended Shorter College, graduating with an A.B. degree in Biology cum laude in 1956. She graduated from the Medical College of Georgia in 1960, served as intern at Floyd Hospital in 1960 and 1961, and then in an OB/GYN residency at the Medical College of Georgia from 1961 to 1965. She began her OB/GYN practice in a partnership in Marietta from 1965 to 1977, worked in a solo practice from 1977 to 1990, and completed her career in an office practice of GYN from 1990 to 1993. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Marietta and a staff member of Kennestone Hospital from 1965 to 1994. She served in numerous historical and genealogical organizations and spent much time collecting, researching and writing in her interest of local history and genealogy. She also served as Trustee of Shorter Collage during years from 1986 through 2005. She was also a member of the Board of Visitors, McAfee School of Theology of Mercer University, 2007-2009.
She died on February 27, 2011 of pancreatic cancer in a Marietta health facility.
